I LOVE Christmas!!!

Image
I just love Christmas time and all it entails!! It's about tradition, and family, and love for me. And I hear people freaking out already that I didn't say Jesus, but for me, He is in the middle of ALL of those things.  But I am always not one of those moms that turns away from all things Santa, trees, tinsel, or snowmen. I don't mean any offense to anyone....it's how I choose to parent. We can do both and it's ok. I love Christmas deocrating. I love manger scenes. I love nutcrackers. I love red and green. I love snowflakes. I love all the decoration that I have from my Gramma. I love all the ornaments the kids have made over the years. I love white lights. For me, tomorrow is the day to get out all this Christmas. I remember when Dean and I first got married, the girls warned him that mom goes a LITTLE overboard at Christmas time. LOL He wasn't sure what to expect. But just the other day he told me to do MORE! SO today I got a new little manger scene, a stacki

Vintage or Old Fashioned?

I sometimes think I am the wrong age. LOL I love lots of old fashioned things and values.  The girls and Dean sometimes laugh at me for them, but I don't care. It makes me happy. Reminds me of a simplier time. Reminds me of where I came from. Reminds me to be more kind. Here's a list of a few I can think of today.... 1. I got an old school glass candy jar with a lid this week and put "retro" Christmas ribbon candy in it.  2. Thoughtful gift giving is important. Not cash, not gift cards. Something that says, hey I know you, I love you, and this made me think of you. (no judgement if you are a gift card giver, this is just me) 3. Sending handwritten cards. Not emails. Not texts. Not evites. Hand written and hand addressed. Especially thank you cards!  4. I don't wear white after labor day or before Easter.  5. Our Christmas tree has ornaments from all through the years, some from my grandmother, some made for me, some the kids made, just all kinds. Oh...and ALWAYS

Tuesday Ramblings

I love to cook! To me, it's a love language. It's something I do to care for people, mostly my family, but always to cheer someone up, or make them smile, to let them know they are loved.  I love to experiment with ingredients, to see how different things taste together.  I totally connect with Remy from Ratalouille!! Oh,  did I mention that I love Disney movies!?!?!? Anyways, I love scrolling through Pinterest finding new ideas to try. But I hardly ever follow a recipe to the tee, that is why I can't bake. I take liberties. I never measure a thing. If I don't like an ingredient, I leave it out.  Today I learned something new and thought I would share it.  I found a recipe on pinterest for a chicken wild rice soup. I have made something similar before, but the extra umph in this one was it was creamy. Once the soup was done cooking all day in the crockpot, I basically made a roux in on the stove of butter and flour, once it cooked a little I added half and half and mil

My mind is constantly going and going and going

So today I was challenged by a friend of mine that I should start a blogger with all the crazy ideas that I have. So I decided....why not?!?!?!  I want to use this blog for all kinds of things. Recipes, crafts, books I like, thoughts that just pop in my head, mom things, wife things, life things. Thanks for coming along for the ride...it might be bumpy at times.  So for my first post I thought I would share the welcome sign I have been working on lately. You have seen them all over the place lately. The tall skinny ones that sit right outside your front door. I wanted one so badly.  But the ones I saw were mostly for 1 season. I wanted one to use all year. Then I saw one that was made for fall on one side, and Christmas on the back.  I was like, ok, we are getting closer.  But I still wanted one for all year. So I decided I could fix this....but how?  I had my sweet hubby build the sign for me with 3 1x3 boards attached together and stained.  I stink and painting words by hand, so I f
